Vaughn Sadie is an artist and researcher based in Cape Town and completed his MFA in 2009. His work focuses on the role of public infrastructure in shaping our perception of urban spaces. Sadie’s practice is rooted in interdisciplinary and collaborative methods, engaging with choreographers, theatre-makers, and communities to explore alternative ways of interacting and meaning-making with the built environment. He is currently the co-curator of Spier Light Art and the co-founder of Karoo Kaarte, a community-led public programme.
Sadie has worked as a project manager and researcher for public institutions such as the Visual Arts Network of South Africa, the South African History Archive and the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival. He has also worked as a researcher at the African Centre for Cities, where he furthered his research interests in the role of community organising in community-led cultural programming. Sadie has presented his work internationally, including at conferences in the United Kingdom, Croatia and China.
